Official and national statistics
The Royal Statistical Society is an independent body - we receive no core funding from government. Therefore, we are well positioned to fulfil our aim of ensuring that the statistics produced by the official statistics system remain relevant, are of good quality and are easily found and understood.
One of our key functions in this area is reviewing the production and use of official statistics. We have a long and successful history of engaging with the ONS, the Statistics Authority and other stakeholders on this, which also then informs our public policy work on the development of official statistics in the UK.
We also help connect users and producers of official statistics, primarily through our work supporting statsusernet.org.uk and our Statistics User Forum. Both stimulate engagement between users and producers of official statistics.
Discussion of UK policy for official statistics takes place through our National Statistics Advisory Group.
