Get involved

Our success is thanks to our active community of over 8,000 members and we offer a number of different ways for you to get involved and make the most of your membership.

Attend our events

We offer around 100 meetings a year which are a great way to share and improve knowledge and to enable you to network. We also offer audio recordings and videos of many of our events should you not be able to attend

Get involved in our sections and groups

We organise a number of specialist interest sections and local group meetings covering different topics that you can attend to share knowledge, network and inform our policy development

Professional development

Build on your skills and demonstrate your commitment to statistics by working towards our three grades of professional membership; Graduate Statistician, Chartered Statistician and Chartered Scientist. You can also keep a track of your professional development using our online CPD recording system

Contribute to our policy work

We have an active programme of work around policy issues and our members are often asked to contribute to government consultation responses. Our work is member-led and helps to promote statistics to the wider world.

Share your knowledge

Share your knowledge and raise your own profile by speaking at our meetings or writing an article for one of our publications or the Statslife website.

Support our governance

Members have the opportunity to influence the strategic direction of the Society and are invited to sit on one of our governance or working committees. Members can also run for election to Council.

Sharing best practice

Mentor a GradStat applicant as they work towards Chartered Statistician status or speak about a case study at our events or conference.

Promote statistics

Take part in our work with schools and educational institutes or speak at your local school about statistics. If you are an early-career professional, you can also apply to become an expert industry spokesperson for the RSS.

Become an RSS Accreditation Assessor

Apply to become an RSS Accreditation Assessor to help run our university accreditation scheme. Assessors are paid a daily fee for the work they undertake on behalf of the RSS to assess accreditation applications from institutions and to conduct accreditation visits. Contact us at accreditation@rss.org.uk for more information.

Volunteer

There are around 50 ways to volunteer your time at the RSS; from committee terms to ad hoc projects we have opportunities to suit anyone who wishes to get involved.
