The Professional Registers of the Royal Statistical Society
Since the merger of the Royal Statistical Society and the Institute of Statisticians in 1993, the Society has held two professional registers of fellows; the Register of Professionally Qualified Fellows and the Register of Graduate Statisticians.
Register of Professionally Qualified Fellows
This is the register of fellows who have achieved the standards of education and training in the methodology and application of statistics and have demonstrated the standards of professional competence, acquired through training and experience, as is necessary to practise in statistics, as determined by the Professional Affairs Committee.
The register includes those fellows holding the Chartered Statistician (CStat) designation, awarded by the Society since 1993, and also those fellows who were previously members of the Institute of Statisticians and who retained the Institutes’ Honorary award or the award of Fellow of the Institute of Statisticians (FIS) or the award of Member of the Institute of Statisticians (MIS).

Register of Graduate Statisticians
This is the register of fellows who have achieved the standards of education and training in the methodology and application of statistics necessary for a foundation for a career as a professional statistician as determined by the Professional Affairs Committee; but may not yet have demonstrated the standards of professional competence, acquired through training and experience, necessary for the CStat award.
The register includes those fellows holding the Graduate Statistician (GradStat) award of the Society.
Graduate Statisticians who have ‘opted in’ to being listed on the public version of the register can be found by clicking here.
Code of Conduct
For those fellows on the two professional registers compliance with the Society’s Code of Conduct is mandated. Click here to view the code.
