National Statistics
The National Statistics Working Party (NSWP) has the following functions:

To develop RSS general policy in relation to UK official statistics, making proposals to Council as needed

To monitor major structural developments in UK official statistics

To lobby as appropriate in support of RSS policy

To provide briefing material as needed for parliamentarians, media and other interested parties

To support the President and others as needed in their work regarding official statistics
In carrying out these functions the NSWP will consult and coordinate as appropriate with other RSS bodies and with the Statistics User Forum.
Membership and officials
Membership of the NSWP is by invitation of the President who designates one member to act as Chair. In addition to the President, the Chair of the Statistics User Forum (or a designated substitute), the Chair of the Official Statistics Section (or a designated substitute) and the RSS Executive Director shall be ex officio members. The RSS will provide one staff member to act as secretary, normally the Press and Public Affairs Officer. NSWP members who are unable normally to attend meetings may, at the discretion of the Chair, be corresponding members.

Meetings
The NSWP meets as needed, subject to a minimum of one meeting a year.
