Society Activities

The Society's activities are organised around twelve themes.  This organisation allows a flexible approach to our work and rapid response to current issues. Each theme has developed its own support network to deliver its activities and to undertake wider consultation with the membership.

Each theme is led by an honorary officer, who as the theme director works on a day-to-day basis with the theme manager - a member of staff.  Working together, these partnerships take a strategic overview of the area, develop theme based business plans, and consult widely in the fellowship.

The twelve themes are:

Membership & Recruitment to the Society
Professional Affairs
Publications
Meetings & Conferences
Education, Careers & Recruitment to the Profession
External Affairs
Honours & Awards
Statistics User Community
Sections, Local Groups & Study Groups
Strategy & Constitution
Finance
Staffing

In addition to the themes, the RSS offers venue hire facilities in Central London.

Venue Hire

In addition to the twelve themes, the RSS offers venue hire facilities in Central London. The Errol Street premises are used for meetings such as Ordinary Meetings, but the room-hire service has expanded to provide services for external organisations. Meetings relating to statistics often receive a discount. Revenue from this service enables the RSS to provide better services to its members and a wider range of outreach activities to support statistics and those using data.
