  • Become part of a Society which promotes the understanding, development and application of statistics.  Support our work in promoting the public understanding, competent use and interpretation of statistics.
  • Keep up to date with the world of statistics and society news. Our StatsLife website and fortnightly email updates provide news briefings, event listings, job adverts and more.
  • Influence policy. Help the RSS in actively raising issues in evidence-based policy across a range of topics such as science, education, health, social inequality and the environment.
  • Access quality publications.  The RSS publishes three acclaimed journal series, as well as the highly popular and accessible Significance magazine, published together with the American Statistical Association.
  • Take advantage of networking opportunities. Take part in up to 150 meetings a year, around the UK and internationally.
  • Get discounts on conferences and courses.  Attend the RSS’s annual international conference or any of the professional development courses we run, at a substantially discounted rate.
  • Access exclusive member content online. Members can manage their details and access their publications online through the ‘My RSS’ area on the website.
  • Get involved with a local group or specialist section.  Local groups around the UK are organised by a committee of volunteers who plan local talks, events and social activities.  Specialist sections promote particular themes and applications of statistics, and organise topical meetings based around a presented paper or talk.
  • Become professionally qualified.  Membership is open to everybody, regardless of qualifications, but if you do have an approved degree (or equivalent), you can apply for the additional Graduate Statistician (GradStat) or Chartered Statistician (CStat) professional award.
  • Shape our future. Fellows can vote in Council elections and at our AGM, or become Council members.
In order to meet the diverse needs of those engaged or interested in the world of statistics, the Royal Statistical Society offers several different categories of individual membership to suit all levels of interest and need.

The main category of membership - open to anyone with an interest in statistics - is Fellowship.  Fellows receive the full package of member benefits listed above.  Concessionary subscription rates are offered for Fellows who are students, recently graduated, retired, or living in Economically Developing Areas (EDA).

In addition, the RSS offers a special student membership category for undergraduate students.  These members receive a reduced benefit package.

The Society has a professional dimension, and Fellows with suitable qualifications and professional training and experience may apply for our professional award of Chartered Statistician (CStat) status. Fellows with suitable qualifications but who do not yet have the necessary training and experience may apply for Graduate Statistician (GradStat) status.

The RSS also offers Teacher Associate membership to secondary and primary teachers of Statistics in Mathematics, the Sciences and Social Sciences.

The Society maintains a Code of Conduct to define the behaviour expected of RSS Fellows practising in everyday professional life. All members of the Society are commended to follow the Code, and it is mandatory for professionally qualified Fellows.
