Feedback

Do you have thoughts on the Society's education strategy that you would like to share? Would you like to get involved?

If you would like to comment on our strategy or existing programme and/or have ideas for possible future activities get in touch. We also welcome volunteers to act as event organisers, workshop presenters and guest speakers.

Let us know about talks you have given in schools and universities, as this helps us find out which institutions are keen to promote careers in statistics and identify regions/towns where coverage could be strengthened.

Careers talk register

The most effective way of getting positive messages across about careers in statistics is by speaking to young people about your experience as a statistician. Careers talks can make all the difference in helping GCSE, A-level and university students decide on their career path or whether to continue to studying statistics.

If you have a story to tell students about the type of work you do and how statistics are used in your workplace, we would really like to hear from you. We can help those who have a local school in mind or those seeking a school to talk at.

The RSS has just under 20 statisticians on our careers talk register and there are others who have not yet joined the register who we are confident would be keen to give a talk to a local school/college too.

When you sign up you can state a preference for talking to students at different levels. Most of the requests we receive for talks are for approximately 45 minute sessions (e.g. a 30 minute talk plus 15 minute discussion) to be given during school hours, usually in the afternoon. Group sizes range from 15 to 100.

The RSS office can support the delivery of your talk from initial booking to follow up. We can communicate with the agreed school on your behalf and can offer supplementary Powerpoint slides and promotional materials such as a DVD and brochures.
