A Review of Team GB's Performance in London 2012
100 days before the start of London 2012, Simon Shibli predicted Team GB to win 27 gold medals, based on a combination of simple linear regression and quantification of the host nation effect. This talk will demonstrate the forecasting model, review the results of his other London 2012 forecasts and the performance of Team GB, and will conclude with the prospects for the host nation Brazil in Rio 2016.
Multiple Event Competitions at the Olympic Games
In many sports, such as Olympic heptathlon or modern pentathlon, participants compete over different disciplines. Tom Fanshawe will introduce issues in assessing multiple event data, using principal components analysis with data from the women's heptathlon at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.
