Chartered Statistician Revalidation
After a period of consideration, consultation and discussion, the Professional Affairs Committee has decided, with the support of Council, to introduce revalidation for the Chartered Statistician (CStat) award on a five-yearly basis.
This introduction of revalidation was first announced to the membership in the February 2012 issue of RSS News.
A more detailed paper describes the process for CStat revalidation. It covers the following topics:
• Management of the revalidation process
• The basic 5-year revalidation process
• Initial allocation of existing CStat holders to cohorts
• Introduction to the revalidation process for those newly awarded CStat status
• The process in ‘Year 5’ of the cycle
• The CStat (and GradStat) registers
• Revalidation for Chartered Statisticians who are also Chartered Scientists
• Career breaks and extenuating circumstances
• Retirement
• Breaks in payment of subscription and reinstatement
The process developed for CStat revalidation considers current best practice in professional revalidation as reflected in the Chartered Scientist (Csci) revalidation process; the CSci award requires annual revalidation. The CSci revalidation webpage contains up-to-date information on the revalidation process being adopted for Chartered Scientists in 2012 and so may be of interest to Chartered Statisticians seeking to understand more about how a revalidation process works. However, it should be noted that the CStat revalidation process will need to reflect the five-yearly cycle and so will be somewhat different from the annual cycle for the CSci award (which also needs to reflect the Science Council guidelines).
Please take a look at the responses to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about CStat revalidation.
For a summary of the revalidation process please have a look at the slides on CStat revalidation from a presentation which was given at the 2012 RSS Conference.
This webpage will be used to provide updates on the implementation of the revalidation process, so please check this page regularly.
