Professional Statisticians’ Forum (PSF)
A Telephone-Based Meeting for Professional (CStat and GradStat) Statisticians
Dr Tim Davis
A statistical career in engineering and industry (Slides: PDF | PowerPoint)
2:00 – 3:30pm (BST) 17 June 2013
Summary
I will outline my 30+ year career in industry, starting with my days at Dunlop, then the Ford Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, and finally setting up my own consulting business. Along the way I will emphasise interactions with universities, and the RSS, and provide some thoughts on how my statistical background has shaped my career.

What is the Professional Statisticians’ Forum?
PSF meetings provide a forum for professional statisticians to share professional experiences and discuss professional development. PSF meetings are intended to be of interest to CSTAT and GradStat members.
PSF meetings are held every 4 times a year and run for around 90 mins. They are intended to be practical in content, and relevant to professional statisticians from a wide range of settings. Meetings are typically led by 1 or 2 speakers with a strong emphasis on sharing experiences. Each meeting will include ample time for discussion / Q&A.
PSF meetings may be telephone-based or face-to-face. At least 1 meeting each year will be held during the RSS conference, and at least 1 by phone allowing participants to dial in from their work-desk. Papers and slides will be posted to the PSF section of the RSS website at least a week ahead of the meeting.
Those interested to attend a PSF meeting are encouraged to pre-register. Though this will not always be necessary for telephone-based meetings, pre-registration is encouraged to allow us to better understand our audience and their interests.
Audio recordings will be available for download shortly after each meeting.
