Mid-term assessment (MTA)

As part of our general policy on continuing professional development and on mentoring, the Society invites all Graduate Statisticians (GradStats) to apply for a Mid-Term Assessment or MTA.

The idea is that you complete a form to provide us with details of your statistical career to date, and we will advise you whether the nature of the work and your own development appears suitable for progression to the full professional status of Chartered Statistician, and when you might apply for that status. As it would normally take at least five years for the necessary amount of professional development to be completed, we recommend that an MTA should be carried out around two and a half years after you have started on a professional statistical career.

We automatically contact all GradStats when, according to our records, they appear to have reached this stage in their careers. However, GradStats are welcome to submit MTA forms at any time should they require feedback of this kind. The form is available as a PDF document for completion by hand and return by post. It is also available as a Word document in case you wish to complete and return it electronically, but an electronic (i.e. scanned) signature is needed. Links to both versions are provided below. They can also be obtained by email or post from us (please email qualifications@rss.org.uk).
