Why should I be interested in becoming a statistician?

It can be an absolutely fascinating and rewarding job.

Statisticians deal with all sorts of problems. They work individually and in teams to make important decisions in all walks of life. They can be found at top levels in their organisations. They use data to assess the impact of different decisions; they help make the best uses of resources; they are involved in improving all aspects of a business; they help improve quality in output.

Statisticians design experiments, are an important part of the team that does the experiment and then help draw the right conclusions from the results.

Statisticians design surveys, are an important part of the team that carries out the survey and then help to get the right interpretations.

If you have a very particular interest then you can almost certainly find a job as a statistician in that area. Your work will still usually cover many different problems.

If you have a wide range of interests then you can get involved with a wide variety of problems as a consultant statistician.

You will help find ways of measuring or counting some aspect of these problems and get numerical insight into the extent of the problems and ways of solving them.
