Which school courses use statistics?

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland a major part of the National Curriculum in Mathematics is on statistics, though the word 'statistics' is not used. The section on data-handling is all about statistical techniques and their use. In Scotland the situation is different, but there are aspects of statistics in the mathematics course. Other countries also include elements of statistics in their school mathematics courses.

You will also find that the statistical process of asking a question, getting appropriate data, analysing and representing the data and then drawing inferences is very similar to the process of a scientific investigation. Science uses a lot of statistics in drawing conclusions. You will also find statistics used in different ways in geography, history, citizenship, psychology, economics, business studies and many other school subjects.

In England there is a separate GCSE in Statistics and it may be possible for you to choose to study this in your school.
