Who employs government statisticians?

The Government Statistical Service comprises about 1000 professional statisticians who are known collectively as the 'statistician group'. They are located in over 30 government departments and agencies. The GSS is led by the National Statistician who is also the head of the Office for National Statistics. Departments and agencies employing statisticians are located in various places around the country including London, York, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Bath, Newport, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast.
