Continuing professional development
The majority of health service employers have achieved the Investors In People award, which brings a commitment to personal development and lifelong learning.
Most large employers of statisticians will have a formal or informal training programme for new staff. For example, the Department of Health, as part of the Government Statistical Service, has a formal programme. If you are working in a small multi-disciplinary team you should also have access to staff development courses and training, but you may need to seek mentoring support from others.
It is important that you develop both your professional and management skills and your knowledge and understanding of the health service if you wish to progress to senior posts.
Your professional work as a statistician might well make it appropriate for you to seek the professional qualification of Chartered Statistician (CStat), which would give you a professional affiliation with the Royal Statistical Society.
