RSS Edinburgh welcomes Public Health Scotland to discuss their work in the last year when the Covid-19 pandemic and the new establishment of Public Health Scotland has emphasized the important role of data and intelligence in supporting Scotland’s health and wellbeing.

We will hear from a fantastic triple-act of speakers from Public Health Scotland:

Scott Heald
Interim Director (Data Driven Innovation) / Head of Profession for Statistics

Scott will introduce Public Health Scotland and provide an overview of their work with particular emphasis on how PHS are using data and intelligence to support health and wellbeing. Scott is a long-serving member of RSS Edinburgh and it's our pleasure to hear him speak.

Kim Marsh
Consultant Health Scientist -
Real-time analysis of COVID-19 data: epidemiology and the public health response in action
Using clinical and sociodemographic data available to Public Health Scotland, Kim will show how the real time collection and analysis of COVID-19 data has driven the public health response to the pandemic in Scotland, delving into how events such as the spread of variants, loosening of restrictions, EURO 2020 and vaccination uptake has impacted Scotland’s third wave. Looking forward, Kim will also explore how we can use epidemiologic data to mitigate future risk and live safely with COVID-19.

Graham McGowan
Principal Information Analyst - Covid Daily Dashboard

Exploring the development journey to 40 million views, Graham will present the iterations to visualisations, the technical processing involved for 7 day reporting and the challenges faced by Public Health Scotland. Reflection and lessons learned will highlight how the Covid-19 pandemic and the new establishment of Public Health Scotland has put a public spotlight on data and intelligence to support Scotland’s health and wellbeing.
