Applied Probability Section is looking for new committee members

The Applied Probability Section of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join its committee for 2023.

The main aim of the Section is to organise loosely-themed meetings on aspects of applied probability, which we interpret as any use of probability to develop models and results that help us to understand the world around us. We have also recently initiated a new prize for the best PhD thesis in Applied Probability.

We are particularly looking for people who are keen to contribute new ideas for Applied Probability section activities, as well as actively help organise events. We typically hold three committee meetings per year, usually taking place on the day of section events, which can be attended in person, or remotely.

If you would like to be considered for the committee, simply send an email to appliedprobability@rss.org.uk by Sunday 25 September, with a paragraph (up to 200 words) summarising your background, why you would like to join, and what you will contribute to the committee. Informal enquiries may be addressed to Gesine Reinert (section chair) or Alexander Cox (section secretary).

Applicants do not need to be a current member of the RSS, but must join the RSS as a fellow before being appointed to the committee.

The RSS is committed to ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment for all who care about good data and statistics.
